Hull City made a seven million pounds (8.6 million euros) bid for Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell and signed Republic of Ireland defender Paul McShane on a season-long loan from Sunderland on Saturday.
Campbell helped Phil Brown's side win promotion from the Championship last season during an impressive loan spell and Tigers chairman Paul Duffen wants to bring him back to the KC Stadium.
Duffen admitted the deal may go through only if United sign Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham.
“We've put a seven million pounds bid on the table to Manchester United,” Duffen told Radio Humberside.
“The complexities of their situation are that it depends on them getting one in, that one might well be Bulgarian (Berbatov).
“As I said all the way through the summer we need to be respectful of that and there's nothing I can do to force the situation.
“If they do bring someone in I want to be at the front of the queue and I will do whatever it takes to bring (Campbell) to the football club.”
McShane joined the Black Cats from West Bromwich Albion in July 2007 and played 21 times for the club last season, but fell out of favour with Roy Keane this season.
The 22-year-old centre-back will be unable to play for Hull against Sunderland during the duration of the loan.
