Hummels’ agent plays down Barca talk; Vasco da Gama expect Dede exit

The agent of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has played down speculation linking his client with a summer move to Barcelona.

The agent of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has played down speculation linking his client with a summer move to Barcelona, ESPN FC understands.

Recent reports in football weekly Sport Bild — which revealed, “Hummels sensation! Barcelona want BVB star in the summer” — have speculated that the Germany international defender could be on his way to the Camp Nou in the summer.

According to Sport Bild, the Catalan side are looking to bring in Hummels as a long-term replacement for aging centre-back Carles Puyol.

However, Hummels’ agent and father, Hermann Hummels, told Sport Bild that he has not held talks with the Spanish giants regarding the future of the 24-year-old defender.

“I have had no contact with Barcelona. I have heard those rumours before. Often, there is something to it. Every ambitious footballer always has some European clubs he could imagine playing for – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United belong to that category,” said Hermann Hummels.

“This, however, does not mean the player makes the switch.”

Hummels, 24, is under contract at Dortmund until the summer of 2017 after penning a five-year deal at the club last June.

The Germany international has tallied four goals and four assists in 42 appearances for both club and country this season.

Meanwhile, English Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United are also believed to be interested in Hummels.

Vasco da Gama expect Dede exit

Vasco da Gama boss Paulo Autuori expects to lose Brazil international defender Dede in the upcoming summer transfer window, ESPN FC reports.

Dede, 24, is reportedly attracting interest from a number of European clubs, including the likes of AC Milan, Juventus Liverpool and Manchester United.

Portuguese Primeira Liga giants S.L. Benfica are also rumoured to be keen on Dede.

“I know Dedé is leaving, we talked about this since when I was negotiating with the club, I won’t make up stories as that only complicates things,” said Autuori.

The 24-year-old centre-back, who also happens to be a favourite among Expresso da Vitória supporters, is regarded as one of the best defenders in Brazil.

CR Vasco da Gama value Dede, who can play centre-back or sweeper, at around £15 million.

Totti wants Roma extension

AS Roma legend Francesco Totti wants to put pen to paper on a new deal at the club, having eclipsed 20 years in Serie A on Thursday, according to Sky Sports.

Totti, 36, made his professional debut for Roma against Brescia in 1993, 20 years ago today.

Nonetheless, the 36-year-old — who has played for one team, Roma, in 20 years — wants to continue his career beyond next season.

“Time has flown because I have done everything with passion,” the former Azzurri international told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I hope that continues even if my contract will expire next season. I’m hoping for a renewal and I’ll speak directly to President James Pallotta about it next week when he arrives.”

Totti continues to boss the game at the age of 36, having bagged 11 goals and 10 assists in 26 Serie A appearances for Roma this season.
