Hummels committed to BVB; Wood looking to leave 1860 Munich

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has insisted he is not looking to quit the club to seek UEFA Champions League football.

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has insisted he is not looking to quit the club to seek UEFA Champions League football.

The Germany international, whose current deal at Signal Iduna Park is set to expire in the summer of 2017, continues to attract interest from top clubs across Europe, including the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, after an impressive run in the World Cup in Brazil.

However, Hummels has rubbished reports suggesting he is set to leave Dortmund for pastures new despite the club’s dismal first half of the 2014/15 campaign.

“All those rumors are another issue I have never commented about. I’ve done that in the past, and I will continue to do so,” Hummels told Die Welt.

“[Europe is] no longer is a realistic issue. The fight for the Champions League does not exist in my head.

“Fundamentally, I don’t need to play Champions League to be happy.

“Maybe we indeed lose players should we not qualify for Champions League, but what I can already tell you is that should we not lose 15 players at once, we’ll still have a super team next season.”

Hummels, 26, has scored one goal in 10 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund this season.

Wood looking to leave 1860 Munich

USA international forward Bobby Wood is hoping to leave German 2. Bundesliga side 1860 Munich during the January transfer window.

Wood, 22, has been a regular under Jürgen Klinsmann since the World Cup finals in Brazil, but he has only played four competitive minutes for 1860 Munich since August.

“It’s always an awesome feeling when you have someone in your corner, and someone like Jurgen as well,” Wood said.

“It helped me mentally a lot, it helped me stay positive and that’s what’s pretty much what I’m trying to do. Hopefully things will figure themselves out.”

When asked if he is looking to leave the Allianz Arena, the former Irvine Strikers youth star said: “Hopefully something will change.

“That’s what I’m trying to do right now but we’ll see. It’s hard to say right now.”

Toronto sign Giovinco

Toronto FC have completed the signing of Italy international forward Sebastian Giovinco from Serie A champions Juventus.

Giovinco, 27, has reportedly penned a four-year deal worth $7 million per season with the MLS side.

“We are beyond excited to add a player of Sebastian Giovinco’s caliber,” said TFC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko.

“[Sebastian] chose TFC and MLS above many other international clubs.”

Giovinco’s suitors included the likes of Arsenal, Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur.
