Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc believes that Mats Hummels is Germany’s best centre-back.
National team coach Joachim Loew appears to be undecided as to who will partner Holger Badstuber in Germany’s opening game against Portugal on June 9, and Zorc feels that Hummels deserves the nod ahead of Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker.
“If there’s one thing that the Dortmund players are perhaps missing, it could be their lack of international experience,” Zorc stated to Kicker.
“The national team coach should know that he can rely on our players, though. And on Mats Hummels in particular, he’s Germany’s best centre-back.”
The 23-year-old Hummels signed a contract extension on Sunday that will keep him at the Bundesliga champions until June 2017.
