Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels believes he will be fit to face Werder Bremen, despite suffering a neck injury on Wednesday.
The German international was involved in a collision with Gonzalo Higuain in Argentina’s 3-1 win over his side on Wednesday, before being diagnosed with a neck strain.
Hummels was forced to sit out Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Oberneuland in the DFB-Pokal first round, but maintains he will be involved in their Bundesliga opener on Friday.
“I went in a threesome for a header. First I felt nothing. It was only after three or four minutes later (that I felt it) violently,” the defender told the club’s website.
“I’ll definitely be fit (for the game against Werder Bremen).”
Juergen Klopp’s men begin their quest for a third consecutive Bundesliga title against Werder on Friday.
