Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt has urged his team to find consistency as they head in to a crucial phase of the season.
Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Stoke City was Wolves’ 10th loss in 13 matches this season, and has left them one point outside of the bottom three.
Hunt has lamented the number of games in which Wolves have had to try to bounce back from a poor run of results, and believes his side’s inconsistency is to blame for the catalogue of high-pressure fixtures.
“It seems crazy having these must-win and six-pointers every third or fourth game,” the 30-year-old told the Shropshire Star.
“It’s because we haven’t been able to build on the wins we’ve had and get a little run together.”
“That’s the most frustrating thing – we’ve not been able to get a good result on the back of a good result.”
“Hopefully we can do what we’ve managed to do lately and that’s bounce back again against Norwich tonight (Tuesday).”
“We’re still confident we can climb the table. We’re not even halfway through the season yet but we know we need to find some consistency fairly quickly. We need to put a string of results together.”
Despite their precarious league position, Hunt feels that results belie the good football Wolves have been playing, and admitted to feeling frustrated by certain refereeing decisions in recent weeks – not least against the Potters at the weekend.
“I think generally we played well and were doing well,” the Republic of Ireland international said.
“But Jonathan Woodgate was fortunate not to get sent off.”
“We hope all the decisions level themselves out over the season because there have been a few. But if we do behave in a good way on the pitch, hopefully referees will see we’re honest.”
“It was probably the wrong decision not to send him off and I don’t think it was a foul for the free-kick which led to their equaliser either. But we have to move on.”
Wolves entertain Norwich City on Tuesday at Molineux, with the Canaries in ninth place after their 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday.
Hunt is expecting a tough encounter against Paul Lambert’s men, but is relishing the chance to get back to winning ways quickly after disappointment against Stoke.
“It’s always good after losing to have the chance to put things right straightaway,” he said.
“Norwich have started the season very well. They’ve got some good players. They play good football and have two physical players up front who can score.”
“They’re also coming to us on the back of a decent result at Everton so it’s going to be difficult.”
“But it’s a game where we need to be taking points.”
