Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar could be leaving Schalke in the near future, German media outlet Bild has suggested.
The 33-year-old is no longer considered an indispensable member of the squad at Veltins Arena and he is on the verge of losing his place in the starting line-up.
Even with Breel Embolo sidelined through injury, the experienced striker was left on the bench in the clash against Mainz, with Franco Di Santo operating as a lone striker.
Considering that his contract is due to expire at the end of the season, there is a chance Huntelaar will be leaving for greener pastures as early as January.
The Netherlands international is one of the highest paid footballers at the club, but his current performances do not warrant his high salary, since Huntelaar has netted just once in 7 Bundesliga appearances this season.
The striker has spent over six years at Veltins Arena, bagging a total of 81 Bundesliga goals.
