Huntelaar set for bumper deal at Schalke

German daily newspaper Bild has suggested that Schalke are readying a lucrative contract for star striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

The highly rated forward will be out of contract in the summer, but it appears he is ready to remain at Veltins Arena.

Schalke chief Horst Heldt has moved to confirm the talks over a new deal are already in progress and it appears the club are prepared to go to great lengths in an attempt to keep hold of their star player.

Namely, Bild claims that the Miners will offer Huntelaar a new two-year deal worth no less than €7 million per campaign.

It is hardly surprising Schalke are desperate to persuade the Dutch striker to stay given that he has been in excellent form ever since he joined from AC Milan four years ago.

The 31-year-old has since made a total of 108 Bundesliga appearances and scored 62 goals in the process.
