Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is determined to prove his coach wrong by matching his goal-scoring exploits from last season.
Dutchman Stevens has said fans cannot expect Huntelaar to repeat last year’s 29-goal haul in the 2012/13 Bundesliga, but the former Real Madrid striker is out to disprove that theory.
“Scoring 29 goals once more is definitely possible,” Huntelaar told Bild.
“We did an excellent job in our home games last season. All we have to do now is make sure that we improve in away matches.”
Meanwhile, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt is aiming high and dreaming of winning silverware with the Gelsenkirchen-based club.
“It will be a good season for us if we finish in the top four. I know it will be very difficult, though,” he said.
“In general, it is our objective to fight for a trophy. Why would we not be able to reach the DFB-Pokal final? A trophy is a realistic goal.”
Schalke are preparing for their Bundesliga opener away against Hannover on Sunday.
