Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar has a €15 million release clause inserted in his contract, according to Sport Bild.
The Netherlands international was heavily tipped to leave the Miners for greener pastures given he had just six months left on his deal, but he ultimately decided to sign a contract extension until June 2015.
That basically means that one of world’s most prolific forwards will stay at Veltins Arena for the foreseeable future, but maybe not after that.
Sport Bild reports that Huntelaar has a clause in his new contract allowing him to leave Schalke in the summer of 2014 for a fee of €15 million.
Given that he will be 31 at the time, there may still be several Premier League clubs willing to offer the player a chance to test his skills in England’s top flight.
Huntelaar has been struggling for form this season, and only scored 5 goals in 17 Bundesliga fixtures.
