Robert Huth has dismissed claims playing outside of Germany hampered his chances of being called up to the national side for Euro 2012.
The Stoke City defender took to Twitter expressing his disappointment at not making the squad to travel to Ukraine and Poland but went on to dismiss his words as ‘entertainment’.
“The only reason (I wasn’t selected) is that (coach Joachim) Loew likes other players, of whom he thinks they would be more helpful for him,” Huth told Goal.
“It doesn’t matter if you play in England, Spain or anywhere else. He has his type of players, with whom he also has success. That I’m here (in England) has never played a role.
“I didn’t see any chance at all (for me to be called up). You know how Twitter works, you want to entertain there. I didn’t expect to be nominated. I haven’t been part of the squad for three years.”
The centre-back has not been contacted by Loew since the announcement of the squad, but is not expecting to hear from the coach due to his busy schedule.
“He has no time to call everyone and ask ‘How are you? How are you feeling? ‘He has other things to concentrate on. The Euros for example,” Huth said.
Huth also discussed England’s chances at the tournament and believes the squad’s lack of familiarity with manager Roy Hodgson will be a key factor in any success they might have.
“They have a new coach and who knows?” he said.
“Maybe they will be totally confused at this tournament and lose every game. Or they might thrash it out until they find common ground like Denmark in 1992 and suddenly win.”
