FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman has praised left back Blake Wagner for the way he has adjusted to his new role in the team.
Hyndman moved from a 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2 system after replacing Steve Morrow as head coach.
“Blake’s been solid for us,” Hyndman said. “We’ve always felt like we needed a good left-sided defender. I didn’t feel like Adrian was the best (in that spot). I thought he’d be better on the right side, which proved to be true. But the reason Adrian was on the left was we didn’t really have anyone else there. I think what happened with Blake was that he really wasn’t playing with a lot of confidence.”
“Confidence is not something anybody can give to you. It’s something you have to bring out of yourself. We spoke a lot about his game, reviewed it with videos, match analysis and tried to get him to simplify his game a little bit and also try to get him to get a little bit quicker on his recovery,” Hyndman added. “Now, he’s putting it all together. He’s still got a ways to go to be as good as he potentially could be but I think he’s been a solid player for us the last six weeks.”
