Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk, widely believed among the best in the business, suffered an ACL injury caused by a savage tackle from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby in October 2020, which ruled him out for the remaining part of last season.
Pickford managed to escape punishment for it due to an error from the officials, as referee Michael Oliver admitted himself later, saying the England international should’ve been sent off.
The Dutchman returned to action ahead of the current campaign, and he’s proud to be where he is at the moment.
