According to reports in Italy, Mauro Icardi is set to be awarded a new deal with Inter Milan. The 25 year old Argentine, who sparked the comeback for Inter against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, has been at the San Siro for five years now since joining from Sampdoria. His current deal is set to run out in 2021 which would give him three more years at the club, but in the proposed new deal, his contract would be extended by two years which would also increase his buy out clause to £116 million.
Icardi is widely considered to be one of the most consistent goalscorers in European football, and given that he’s still in his mid-20s, there’s a good chance that more big European clubs could come sniffing around as the years go on. Still, if Inter can put together a strong season both domestically and in the Champions League, that’d likely serve as a big incentive for him to stay.
