Premier League giants Manchester United are by no means having a bad season, but from the perspective of many fans it has been a disastrous campaign. The Red Devils have all but allowed their eternal rivals Manchester City to run away with the league title, and now Jose Mourinho’s men are looking over their shoulders at Liverpool, who have reduced the gap to just two points.
This lack of success comes despite the purchase of both Romelu Lukaku in the summer and Alexis Sanchez in January, neither of whom have looked wholly convincing in a United shirt as of yet. That is exemplified by the Manchester club’s latest result – a 1-0 away defeat to struggling Newcastle.
Unsurprisingly Mourinho has his eye on a marquee signing for the summer, and the name at the top of the list is that of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Argentine forward has a remarkable goal scoring record, with 18 goals in 22 Serie A games this season, and would make an excellent addition to the United squad.
