FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas was interested in returning to Spanish La Liga in the summer transfer window, according to Diario Sur.
It was Malaga that expressed interest in signing the former Real Madrid captain and they were informed that the 35-year-old would be keen on moving to La Rosaleda.
Los Boquerones owner Abdullah Al Thani was excited by the prospect of recruiting a player of Casillas’ profile, but the deal eventually failed to materialise.
Namely, despite being disappointed by his performances, FC Porto were not prepared to let the Spaniard leave on a free transfer.
At the same time, Malaga were not in a position to meet Casillas’ high wage demands, meaning the transfer didn’t even enter the final stage.
Even though he had failed to impress in his maiden Primeira Liga campaign, the Spanish shot-stopper kept his place in the side and he has made seven league appearances this season.
