Daily Mirror has learned that Manchester United are in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan.
The Germany international has just over a year left on his deal at Signal-Iduna Park and it appears he will be leaving the Millionaires in the summer.
It has been reported that Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea are all hot on the trail of the 23-year-old footballer, but Manchester United believe they can lure Gundogan to Old Trafford instead.
The Red Devils officials have long ago started working on the deal that could see the highly rated midfielder move to Manchester and they seem to have an ace up their sleeve.
Manchester United are prepared to offer cash plus Shinji Kagawa in exchange for Gundogan, which is likely to appeal to the German giants.
The Red Devils are still trying to get their Champions League bid back on track and they are priced at 7/1 to achieve a top 4 finish.
