Arsenal FC goalkeeper Manuel Almunia may only have made one save in the 7-6 penalty shoot-out victory against AS Roma but it was enough to help his side through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

“I’m not the hero – we are all heroes tonight,” Almunia said. “In those situations, the penalty takers should carry the glory because they are the ones who feel the pressure and have to hold their nerve”.

“There might be a bit more pressure when you miss your first kick but penalties are always high pressure situations. Sorry to the fans for not saving more than one, but it was enough. Our boys showed maturity and I’m proud of them.”
