Wigan’s record signing Mauro Boselli is delighted with his League Cup goal haul and is hoping it is enough to earn him a regular starting spot.
The Argentine forward is the joint-leading goalscorer in the tournament, having notched twice against West Ham on Tuesday and against Nottingham Forest in the previous round.
“It is always important for a striker to score goals and I am very happy to have scored twice in the game,” Boselli told Wigan’s website after the game.
“The service for both goals was very good so I am very grateful for that.”
Wigan ended West Ham’s eight-match unbeaten run at home, causing Roberto Martinez a few selection dilemmas in the process.
“The opportunity tonight was a great chance to show how willing to fight the players who haven’t played much are,” Boselli said.
“I am very happy that we got the victory and the most important thing is that the team played very well against a good team away from home.”
