(GSM) – Barcelona midfield wizard Andres Iniesta is set to miss his side’s championship-deciding clash with Real Valladolid on Sunday following a persistent hamstring problem
Iniesta came through training on Tuesday and hoped to play at the Camp Nou, but on Friday the Spaniard said it would be “difficult” to be fit for the final match of the campaign.
“I’ve had a really hard season,” Iniesta explained. “I started injured and I don’t want to finish in the same situation.”
“It would be really good to play some minutes, but to be honest I don’t think that I will start the game.”
Barca must beat Valladolid to ensure they retain the league title – anything less than a victory would enable Real Madrid to win La Liga with a victory at Malaga.
Barcelona were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Sevilla and the Champions League by Inter Milan, with the league title representing the FIFA Club World Cup winners’ final chance to win some silverware this season.
“If we won La Liga the celebration would be spectacular,” Iniesta said.
