Fulham midfielder Dickson Etuhu has pulled out of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar on Sunday because of an ankle injury.
“Etuhu is ruled out of the match because he is nursing an ankle injury he suffered in his team’s last game in England,” Nigeria Football Federation spokesman Robinson Okosun said.
“He informed us of the injury, but we insisted on him reporting to camp for our doctors to ascertain how severe it was.”
Etuhu will stay on to give the team morale support on Sunday.
Club Brugge striker Joseph Akpala was the first to withdraw from the Madagascar game after he suffered a long-term knee injury during a Europa League game last week in Russia.
Nigeria will host Madagascar in the southern coastal town of Calabar on Sunday in a Group B qualifying match for the 2012 Nations Cup to be jointly staged by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Guinea and Ethiopia are the other teams in this group.
