Tottenham defender Alan Hutton will miss the remainder of the English Premier League season with a knee injury.
Despite hopes the injury was not as bad as first feared, scans have revealed that the Scottish right-back has torn his lateral meniscus and will be out for the rest of the season.
Hutton will have an operation on the knee, leaving Spurs struggling in defence ahead of the club’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
He joins Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Younes Kaboul on the sidelines with William Gallas struggling to overcome a knee injury ahead of Tuesday’s game.
Spurs are in Madrid for the first leg of the quarter-final tie before returning to England to host Stoke City as their search for a top-four finish in the league continues.
