Inter chasing Porto defender

Romanian newspaper ProSport understands that Inter are exploring the option of signing Porto defender Cristian Sapunaru.

The Romanian international has lost his place in the starting line-up at Dragao and is unlikely to extend the contract which expires in June 2013.

As a result, Porto are hoping to cash in on the full-back this summer, and the asking price is well below the player’s €25 million release clause.

According to Romanian newspaper ProSport, Inter have expressed their interest in signing the experienced defender.

With Douglas Maicon set to leave the club, the Neroazzurri are searching for a new right-back and Sapunaru has been recommended to them by Romanian defender Cristian Chivu.

The experienced left-back opted to extend his contract at Giuseppe Meazza despite big interest from abroad and he could now be paired with his international teammate.

Cristian Sapunaru has spent last four seasons at Porto, and scored 2 goals in 56 league appearances for the Dragons.
