Inter Milan have moved to confirm they are hoping to sign Nemanja Vidic on a free transfer from Manchester United.
The Serbian defender has just announced that he will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in the summer after not being offered a new deal by the club.
Inter Milan were believed to be one of the leaders for his signature and the Serie A side have now admitted they are in the chase to sign the 32-year-old stopper.
“Vidic is an important player whose contract expires in June. Like other European clubs, we will try to get something from this great opportunity,” Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio told Tuttosport.
“He is one of the players we are tracking. He has an interesting profile for Inter, as he has charisma and international experience.
“We will probably lose some players in his role because their contracts are up, so he is someone we are trying to pay attention to.
“However, it’s a long way from that to saying we’ve already done something with regards to Vidic and I don’t feel ready to confirm that.”
Nemanja Vidic has been a loyal servant to Manchester United for over eight years and many were surprised by the club’s decision not to offer him a new deal.
The Serbia international has made it clear that he will not be staying in England and Italian Serie A appears to be his most likely destination.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are attempting to revive their top 4 bid in the Premiership, with the Red Devils 1/5 favourites to see off Fulham on Sunday.
