Inter president Massimo Moratti has confirmed reports linking the Neroazzurri with a summer swoop for Sampdoria starlet Mauro Icardi.
The talented forward has exploded onto the biggest stage this season, and he was on the verge of joining Napoli on transfer deadline day in January.
However, Inter seem to have moved to the front of the queue to sign the Argentine striker, with Massimo Moratti confirming they are in talks with Sampdoria.
“Icardi could be one of our reinforcements if we reach an agreement with Sampdoria,” Moratti said to Tuttosport.
“He will not come here to deputise for Diego Milito, though. I could see Icardi doing very well at Inter.”
Inter found themselves in all sorts of problems when Diego Milito was ruled out for the season, but they, nonetheless, opted against signing John Carew on a free transfer as they were not satisfied with the player’s fitness levels.
That basically means they will have to make do with Cassano, Rocchi and Palacio until the end of the season, but everything suggests Mauro Icardi will be added to the ranks for the next campaign.
The 20-year-old has been in excellent form this season, scoring 8 goals in 20 Serie A appearances.
