Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Inter Milan aim to tie down star players Mauro Icardi and Mateo Kovacic to new long-term deals.

Even if both players have contracts until June 2018 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, the Nerazzurri plan to offer them new and improved deals until 2019 in an attempt to ward off interest in their services.

Despite being regarded as a key player, Mauro Icardi is only earning around €1 million per campaign and Inter’s new offer should be €1.7 million plus bonuses.

His Croatian teammate is also set for a serious pay rise and the Nerazzurri hope their efforts will prevent the two starlets from leaving the club any time soon.

While Mauro Icardi, 21, has already bagged 9 goals in 23 league outings for Inter Milan, 20-year-old Kovacic has yet to score a league goal in 46 appearances, but he has recently bagged a hat-trick in the Europa League play-offs.
