Inter Milan are planning a January swoop for long-term target Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to Tuttosport.
The Nerazzurri hoped to cash in on Fredy Guarin and use the funds to try and lure the Argentine to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but the Colombian ultimately remained at the club.
Even so, Inter could make a new assault on Lavezzi in January, should the team have any chance of fighting for a top 3 finish.
It is no secret the Argentina international is eager to return to Italian Serie A, and the Azzurri appear to be leading the chase at the moment.
Despite impressing at the 2014 World Cup with Argentina, Lavezzi has lost his place in the starting line-up at Parc des Princes, making just three substitute appearances in the league so far.
Since joining the Saints from Napoli two years back, the 29-year-old has managed mere 12 goals in 63 league outings.
