Inter Milan have opened the negotiations over potentially signing Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Having completed the signing of Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid for €40 million, the Nerazzurri boss Antonio Conte is now keen to boost their options on the other side of defence as well. They have Ashley Young, in that role, but the former Manchester United man will turn 35 next week and is obviously approaching the end of his playing days. Emerson is 10 years younger and could provide a long-term solution.
The Brazilian has made 19 appearances for Frank Lampard’s team this season in all competitions, but he has recently been completely overtaken for the spot in the starting XI by Marcos Alonso. He played against Leicester City in the FA Cup last week, but he was last seen in a Premier League fixture in January.
Romano says the talks between the two clubs are underway and an official bid is expected soon.
