Inter interest in Silvestre confirmed

Palermo have moved to confirm reports that Inter Milan are showing interest in star defender Mattias Silvestre.

The Argentine joined the Rosanero from bitter rivals Catania last summer, hoping to realize his ambition of playing in European competitions.

However, after the club from Sicily finished the season just few placed above the relegation zone, the player expressed his desire to leave Renzo Barbera for a bigger club.

Palermo sporting director Giorgio Perinetti admits the club are ready to cash in on the highly rated defender and reveals Inter are the favourites for the player’s signature at the moment.

“It’s no secret that he is liked by many great Italian and foreign teams,” Perinetti told Radio Radio. “The most concrete interest has been shown by Inter.”

The club official, nonetheless, explains that Silvestre won’t come on the cheap after Palermo splashed the money on him last summer.

“Silvestre, however, was a strong investment for Palermo, who paid €7-8m and so we cannot consider offers that are inferior to these. For now there has only been talk.”

The 27-year-old, who started his career at Boca Juniors, has been a real rock in Palermo’s defence this season, while he also managed to score 5 goals in 29 Serie A games.
