Inter Miami are working together with the Major League Soccer with the aim of arranging the transfer of Lionel Messi, a fee agent as his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires this month, according to The Athletic.
Widely considered the best player the world has seen in the last 15 years, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has had a season of mixed fortunes and emotions. He captained Argentina as they won the World Cup in Qatar last year, but having stood by his international teammate, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who mocked Kylian Mbappe after the final, back in the French capital his welcome seemed doubtful.
The 35-year-old’s exit from the Parc des Princes appeared almost certain after the home defeat to Lorient on the last day of April, after which he flew to Saudi Arabia without permission while his teammates reported for training.
Be that as it may, Messi’s contract has come to an end and he won’t be signing a new one. Barcelona tried to take their former captain back to the Camp Nou, and they’re believed to be trying still, but with various difficulties hindering his return there, Inter Miami are working hard to take advantage of the situation.
“The league has gotten very creative with all of this,” an MLS stakeholder has been quoted saying about a potential deal for Messi to continue playing in the MLS. “Everything is on the table.”
