Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona shocked the world last summer. With the Catalan club unable to form a financial structure to allow the club icon to continue playing at the Camp Nou, Paris Saint-Germain stepped in and offered Messi a two-year contract with an option on a third, and Messi accepted.
However, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner cannot be said to have hit the ground running in the French capital. He has scored seven goals and produced 11 assists in 23 appearances in all competitions so far, and while those numbers are far from bad, they are extremely underwhelming for a player of Messi’s quality and reputation.
There have been rumours about his potential move to the MLS in the near future with Inter Miami supposedly leading the way, and club co-owner Jorge Mas told Goal.com that they are going to try and make it happen.
“Leo Messi is still one of the best players in the world, his skills have not diminished,” Mas said. “I think, and David [Beckham] has a relationship with him, if he does leave PSG, at the time he leaves it, we’d love to see Lionel Messi be a player at Inter Miami and be part of our community.
“Can it happen? Look, we’ll push. I’m an optimist at heart. Could I see that happening? It’s a possibility.”
