Inter Milan 1-2 Juventus: Three Things We Learned

On a dramatic night at the San Siro, Juventus came from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 and win the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final. While there’s at least another 90 minutes to go in this tie, it’s safe to say that the Old Lady are the ones in the driving seat as the race to claim the trophy continues.

Ronaldo’s world

This is Cristiano Ronaldo’s world – we’re just living in it. The veteran may be moving into the latter stages of his professional career in the eyes of many, and yet, he’s still easily one of the most exciting players on the face of the planet. He was the man who scored both goals in this game and completely turned the result on its head, and you can expect he’ll be eager to do the same thing when the second leg rolls around next week.

The legend of Buffon

While he may not have kept a clean sheet, Gianluigi Buffon made a handful of important saves in what was his 1,100th senior appearance in professional football. We’re talking about a man who, at the age of 43, can probably still claim to be one of the best goalkeepers in the game today which is just a little bit insane in our estimation. His legend will live on forever, but for now, he’s not even close to being done as his pursuit of greatness continues.

Juve hold all the cards

Juventus are, understandably, the clear favourites to now win this season’s Coppa Italia with odds of 5/4 through 888sport. Inter, Atalanta and Napoli are all still in with a very viable shout but Juve have proven themselves capable of gritting their teeth – even after what has been an uneven campaign for them thus far. They still have an incredibly talented squad, they’re still the Champions of Italy, and it’s still not unreasonable to think they could win a few different pieces of silverware this season if they can start to really build up some consistency. The future is bright for them, as is so often the case.
