Inter Milan have been dealt a transfer blow with the news that summer target Paulinho wants to remain in Brazil with Corinthians, reports ESPN.
The Serie A club have made no secret of their desire to sign the midfielder – who has been with a host of European clubs – but it appears he is happy to stay exactly where he is.
Referring to his future, the 23-year-old said: “I want to remain here and I hope that my future is resolved as soon as possible.”
Paulinho then spoke specifically about the interest from Inter, saying the Italian club had spoken to his representatives, but not him directly.
Overall, it still seems possible that there could be time for a few twists in this transfer story. The player is obviously saying he is happy for now, but if a firm bid comes in, he may have to reconsider.
Paulinho may feel as if he owes Corinthians though. They signed him from the lower leagues and now he is wanted by clubs all over Europe.
In terms of the club’s stance, it could depend on how much is offered. Perhaps if Inter put some money on the table, it could start a bidding war.
For now though, Paulinho is happy enough at Corinthians, but this is definitely a transfer story worth keeping an eye on.
