According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is very interested in trying to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen during the summer transfer window.
Vertonghen, who has slipped down the ranks in the eyes of many Spurs fans over the last few months, is set to be out of a contract at the end of the current campaign – with Conte believing that he can lure him over to the San Siro on a free transfer.
That isn’t the only source of interest, though, with Roma also being in the mix. Roma have a history of bringing over Premier League stars and making them shine, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling both enjoying career resurgences in Serie A.
Inter are ahead of Roma in the running to make a deal happen, but the real question is whether or not Spurs are willing to let him go. While they may not have a choice in the matter given the contract situation, they could always offer Vertonghen a short-term deal to stay for another year or two.
