Inter not giving up on De Jong

Inter Milan are ready to step up their interest in Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong, La Gazzetta dello Sport understands.

The Dutch midfielder was widely tipped to leave Etihad Stadium this summer after falling behind Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure behind the pecking order, but the player recently explained he was happy at City.

Nevertheless, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Inter are not yet prepared to give up on the possibility of signing the 27-year-old.

The Italian newspaper states that Inter officials are set to meet with the player’s representative to discuss a possible transfer to Giuseppe Meazza.

The Neroazzurri have allowed several senior players to leave the club this summer and would jump at the opportunity to sign the Dutch international.

Nigel de Jong has spent last four seasons at Manchester City, but, because of the fierce competition for starting places he only started 11 Premier League games last term.
