Inter Milan boss Leonardo is well aware of the importance Saturday’s clash with Bologna holds in the Serie A title race.
The new Brazilian manager in charge at the San Siro has steered his side to three successive wins which leaves them in seventh place on the table, 11 points behind leaders and city rivals AC Milan.
With optimism among Leonardo’s squad at a high, many pundits think they are still alive in the title race and can catch Milan at the top, making Saturday’s home fixture even more important.
“The first games were important and a sign for ourselves, but all games are fundamental. We must move on and think about Bologna,” Leonardo said.
“They are a team in good form and are positive, we have to be very careful against them.”
Since taking over, Leonardo’s side have been free-scoring, netting eight goals in three matches.
But they also have conceded five, and the boss admits it is a problem he is aware of.
“These are all avoidable goals, we have to work on this to improve,” he said.
Saturday’s clash will see Inter legend Javier Zanetti notch up his 519th appearance for the club, which will move him level with club record holder, Giuseppe Bergomi.
Leonardo was quick to pay tribute to the Argentinean.
“The consistency Zanetti displays in all his games is incredible. He is a legend as he equals Bergomi’s record,” he said.
