Interesting day in the Premier League for debutants

The transfer deadline day saw a lot of player movement in the Premier League.

Today will see a lot of those players make their debuts for their new clubs.

Some big players moved on the last day of the transfer window and some of those will have their chance to make a good first impression. Here are a few of those players hoping to impress today:

Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

One of the biggest deals of the day saw the Spaniard move to the Emirates Stadium from Everton for a fee of £10million. This move will probably prove best for everybody. The 29 year-old has undoubted class but has struggled to regain his best form in the last 18 months.

A fresh start at Arsenal maybe just what the Spaniard needs to reignite his top form. Arsenal needs a creative player to try to fill the void left by Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Everton boss David Moyes didn’t want to sell Arteta but he wanted to go and the Toffee’s needed the money.

Arteta will make his debut in Arsenal’s home clash with Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium. He is likely to start in his favoured position of central midfield.

Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

German international defender Per Mertesacker is another player likely to make his Gunners debut against Swansea. The 26 year-old arrived for a fee believed to be £8million from German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

He is the sort of commanding defender the club needed, especially with Thomas Vermaelen picking up another injury. Mertesacker probably won’t have his busiest day against the Swans but he could be a key player against more in-form opposition.

Peter Crouch (Stoke City)

The gangly striker has arrived at the Britannia Stadium for £10million from Tottenham. The England international has scored goals wherever he has gone and will now be the focal point of the Potters attack.

Crouch wasn’t believed to be keen on a move to Staffordshire but after speaking with Stoke boss Tony Pulis was persuaded that the club are highly ambitious. This is another move that will suit everybody.

Stoke wanted a striker with a good goal scoring record, Crouch needed regular first team football and Tottenham wanted to make space in their squad. Crouch should make his debut for the Potters at the Britannia Stadium against former club Liverpool.

Craig Bellamy (Liverpool)

The Welsh striker could also make his second debut at the Britannia Stadium, after rejoining the Reds from Manchester City on a season-long loan. Bellamy could be one of the bargains of the summer.

The 32 year-old has blistering pace and is a constant threat to opposition defences. Bellamy is likely to see more first team football at Anfield than he would at the Etihad Stadium.

Raul Meireles (Chelsea)

This move happened very late on in the transfer window. The Portuguese midfielder joined from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee. The 28 year-old had fallen out of favour at Anfield and will be hoping to play a big part at Stamford Bridge.

The move was slightly surprising as Meireles finished last season in superb form. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas knows the midfielder from his days at Porto and he could prove to be a really good signing. Meireles could make his debut in the Blues trip to Sunderland.

Nicklas Bendtner (Sunderland)

The Danish international could also make his debut at the Stadium of Light. Bendtner has arrived in the North East on a season-long loan from Arsenal. Sunderland was in need of an extra attacker with Asamoah Gyan expected to make a loan move to the Middle East with Al-Ain.

Bendtner has flattered to deceive at the Emirates and hasn’t lived up to his reputation for Arsenal. He does however have the potential to be a top player. He will need to knuckle down and work hard for the Black Cats. He now needs to let his football do the talking.

Exciting

For fans of the clubs who have signed players on transfer deadline day today will be exciting. It’s a chance to see their new heroes in their clubs colours for the first time. Days like these are what football is all about.

Who will make the biggest impact on their debut today?
