(GSM) – Brazilian side Emelec began their Copa Libertadores campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Emelec of Ecuador.
After a goalless first half at the Jose Pinheiro Borba stadium in Porto Alegre, it was Emelec to take a surprising lead through David Quiroz in the 49th minute.
Internacional soon replied though and equalised through Nei four minutes later, and it then took until three minutes from the end for Alecsandro to score the home side’s winner.
The Brazilians are now in second place, with Cerro of Uruguay ahead on goal record. Emelec and fellow Ecuadorians Deportivo Quito share the bottom spots.
