Brazilian side Internacional have confirmed they are interested in signing Uruguayan forward Diego Forlan.
The 33-year-old has had a rocky start to his career at Giuseppe Meazza after arriving to the club in a €5 million deal from Atletico Madrid last January.
Forlan only managed to score 2 goals in 18 Serie A appearances and he is widely expected to leave the Neroazzurri this summer.
The player’s father earlier interested the experienced forward could be interested in a move to Brazil and Internacional have now confirmed their interest in the Uruguayan.
Recent reports suggested that the Neroazzurri plan to terminate the player’s contract, just like they did with Lucio, in which case Forlan would be available on a free transfer.
“If that information is true, we’ll be interested,” Internacional vice-president Lucian Davi told Lancenet.
“Internacional will have to be creative to know how to handle this kind of situation. If Forlan becomes a free agent, we will have to work something out regarding his wages.”
Inter are planning a major squad overhaul and the Italian giants are looking to offload several senior players in order to make way for some talented youngsters.
