Internacional Porto Alegre have won the 2008 Copa Nissan Sudamericana. Opponents Estudiantes came close but a goal in extra time made the difference.

In a spectacular match, it was Estudiantes to open the score through Alayes in the 65th minute. As Internacional won the first match 1-0, extra time was needed to decide the clash.

The Brazilians began extra time without Agenor, who received a red card just before full time.

Where Estudiantes had been trying to net a winner in regular time, Internacional regained strength in extra time and continuously pressurized the Argentinians.

It paid off in minute 114. Keeper Iberbia deflected an effort onto the post but in the following chaos, Nilmar remained focused and scored from about two meters.

The guests no longer managed to control emotions, resulting in red cards to Braña and Boselli in the remainder of the match. Braña in particular caused troubles, arguing with the referee, the assistant and even with security.

In seven editions, it is the first time that the cup goes to a Brazilian side. Argentina won three, Peru one and Mexico one as well.
