Syria defeated Iraq 1-0 in a confidence-boosting win in their international friendly on Saturday at Sulaymaniyah Stadium.

The visitors deserved their victory, scoring in the 86th minute through midfielder Taha Dyab to ensure they head to the Asian Cup on a high after beating the reigning champions.

It could have been even better for the Syrians if Mohamed Zeno had converted a penalty in the 43rd minute.

In the other friendly, two goals from Honduras defender Johnny Leveron helped them beat Panama 2-1. Striker Edwin Aguilar scored for Panama.
