Edwin Sanchez hit a late winner as El Salvador came from behind to beat Venezuela 2-1 in their friendly clash on Sunday.
The midfielder struck the decisive blow in the 90th minute at the RFK Memorial Stadium in Washington.
An under-strength Venezuela – coming off a fourth-place finish at July’s Copa America – opened the scoring through Fernando Aristeguieta after a neat pass from strike partner Yonathan Del Valle on 29 minutes.
Midfielder Herbert Sosa levelled with a free-kick seven minutes from time before Sanchez’s late winner.
Sosa provided the pass for Sanchez, who placed his shot after beating defender Alexander Gonzalez.
Venezuela meet Argentina in a friendly on September 2, while El Salvador take on the Dominican Republic in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier on the same day.
