A brace from Santos forward Neymar helped Brazil defeat Scotland 2-0 in an international friendly at the Emirates Stadium.
Neymar has been the subject of interest from English Premier League champions Chelsea and across Europe’s biggest leagues. And it was the sought-after teenager who struck a goal in each half as Mano Menezes’ new-look Brazil continued to take shape on Sunday. The five-time World Cup winners dominated the first half, but it took until the 18th minute for Jadson to test Allan McGregor in the Scotland goal.A minute later and Internacional striker Leandro Damiao should have made it 1-0 when he grazed the crossbar with a header from Elano’s corner.Lucas Leiva exchanged a slick one-two with Jadson in the 26th minute, but the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder failed to find a team-mate with the cutback. Next it was the turn of Dani Alves to squander an opportunity.Played in by Jadson, the Barcelona full-back might have shot, but instead attempted a square ball to Damiao, which was gratefully intercepted. It took some last gasp tackling from the Wigan’s James McArthur to deny Neymar on 33 minutes. At the other end, Rangers defender Steven Whittaker headed wide from a free-kick with Scotland’s only chance of the half.It looked like Craig Levein’s side would survive until half-time without conceding, but Heymar had other ideas. Andre Santos found the highly-rated forward unmarked inside the area, and he could afford to pick out the far corner of the net with a well-placed shot to make it 1-0.Brazil picked up where they left off in the second half, with Neymar hitting the crossbar in the first minute.Rangers goalkeeper McGregor was then forced to make a desperate interception to deny Neymar a second after Ramires stole possession. Chelsea’s Ramires wasted a good chance on 52 minutes, blazing over from inside the area after Alves found him in space.Damiao went close yet again with a header, before Blackpool’s Charlie Adam enjoyed a rare chance for Scotland, only to see his speculative effort sail over from distance. The pace slowed as both teams made a number of substitutions, but Neymar remained lively enough to earn a penalty after twisting away from Adam and drawing a foul just inside the box.The 19-year-old converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining. Substitute Lucas of Sao Paulo came off the bench and impressed late on, while Barry Bannan was also introduced and tested Julio Cesar with a free-kick in the closing minutes.
