A solitary goal from Siyabonga Sangweni gave South Africa a 1-0 win over Tanzania in an international friendly on Saturday.
Defender Sangweni scored the game’s only goal just before half time to give Bafana Bafana a slender victory at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The visitors dominated the first half but it took until the 45th minute for them to make it count on the scoreboard.
Tanzania goalkeeper Kaseja Juma flapped at a corner kick and Sangweni was on hand with a diving header at the back post to put South Africa in front.
The hosts came out with renewed vigour after the interval as they searched for an equaliser, and striker John Bocco nearly had them level, only for his header to go agonisingly wide.
Debutant South African goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands was called into action in the 83rd minute, parrying a dipping long-range effort from Tanzania’s Salum Machaku.
