Newcastle’s Alan Pardew has questioned the training methods of international managers after seeing two players return to the club injured.
Goalkeeper Tim Krul and defender Fabricio Coloccini have both returned to Newcastle from World Cup qualifying duty with injuries and Pardew has claimed he will be requesting information in the future when his players leave to play for their national sides.
Krul injured his elbow training with the Netherlands, while Coloccini is struggling with a hamstring issue he sustained with Argentina.
“I think we’ve been unlucky, if I’m honest,” Pardew said.
“All the injuries we’ve got have been on international duty and I think that’s wrong.
“We’re preparing our players and I expect them to be prepared when they’ve got international duty too.”
Pardew has warned national team managers he will demand to be better informed from now on when his players are called up to represent their countries.
“We lost (Northern Ireland’s Shane) Ferguson injured in international duty, we’ve lost Coloccini twice now injured on international duty and we lost Tim (Krul) injured on international duty when he trained after the game, which we were disappointed about, if I’m honest,” Pardew said.
“Therefore, we’ve put in a procedure now that we want all national sides to inform us what the players are doing and exactly what they’re doing.
“With the technology we’ve got today, GPS and everything else, we want a report back to know what they’re doing, because we’re handing these players over, to an extent on our pay, so we want to make sure they’re looked after.”
Pardew has conceded the prospect of taking on Everton on Monday without Krul and Coloccini is worrying, especially with defender Danny Simpson also unavailable.
“We’ve lost three of our back five who started the season, because obviously Danny Simpson’s injured too,” Pardew said.
“That’s a significant blow for us.
“We’re not a Chelsea or a Man United who can bring in international players to replace them.
“Having said that, I think our replacements are strong.”
