Inter’s Milito going nowhere, says Zanetti

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti insists Argentine compatriot and club team-mate Diego Milito will not be leaving the treble winners.

The 30-year-old Milito had a stunning first season at Inter following a career spent in the less glamorous locations of Real Zaragoza and Genoa since he came to Europe from his homeland.

He scored the winning goals in both the Champions League final and Italian Cup final while also notching the decisive strike in Inter’s last game of the Serie A season to earn them a 1-0 win at Siena and the scudetto crown.

But he sparked rumours he may be on his way out by making ambiguous comments about his future following the Champions League victory in Madrid last month.

“I spoke to Diego after the match and it seems he didn’t express himself right,” said Zanetti in a videochat with the official Inter Channel.

“He’s delighted to be with us and I believe what we saw this year was important.

“He has also become a part of Inter’s history, no doubt about that, he’ll stay with us.”

Zanetti, who was overlooked by Argentina coach Diego Maradona for his World Cup squad, also dismissed any possibility that he would be following Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid.

“I’ve already turned Real Madrid down once a few years ago,” he added. “I could have gone there, it was almost a done deal, but I spoke to (Inter president Massimo) Moratti and told him I wanted to stay here.”
