Inter Milan centre-back Walter Samuel could miss the rest of the season after he was diagnosed with a torn cruciate knee ligament on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Argentinian international was stretchered off during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brescia at the San Siro after hyper-extending his knee in the second half.
Inter said Sunday that Samuel will have to undergo an operation in the coming days to repair the damage.
Knee ligament injuries usually leave a player on the sidelines for around four to six months, meaning Samuel may not be fit again until May.
Brazilian right-back Maicon also underwent tests after he left the field in the first half against Brescia, the verdict being a strained hamstring.
