Inzaghi eyes derby spoils

AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi believes his team-mates will shrug off their recent poor form as they head into Saturday’s Milan derby.

Milan were held to a shock 1-1 draw by bottom side Bari at the San Siro on March 13, and slumped to a 1-0 loss against Palermo in their most recent league outing.

It has been a worrying month for manager Massimiliano Allegri, who has seen his side?s lead atop Serie A cut to just two points by Inter.

The domestic struggles came alongside a surprise exit from the Champions League at the hands of Tottenham.

Inzaghi remains sidelined by a knee injury picked up against Palermo last year, but could return to action within three weeks after it was originally predicted he would miss the rest of the season.

Although he will not be a part of Saturday’s crunch game, the 37-year-old believes his team-mates have what it takes to get the job done.

“We all know Inter Milan’s strength, but Milan has the confidence of being top of the table and being very strong,” Inzaghi said.

“We know that Inter Milan has strong players, a good group and that they never give up. We know Inter Milan, but I have seen great confidence in my team-mates and in the supporters.”

“I feel a great atmosphere. Unfortunately I’ll be a supporter on Saturday, but we are a tight group and we hope to win the match.”

Inzaghi believes his side’s recent form will see them enter the clash as underdogs, a tag he believes Milan will relish.

“It is common belief that the underdogs will win the derby, therefore if it is better to go into the game out of form,” he said.

“It is impossible to predict about the result of the match. I know that my team-mates are doing their best to prepare this match and I know that the supporters will be helping us.”

“We’re at a crossroads: if we manage to win, we’ll be able to take a big step forward. I believe that all players looking forward to this match and I know that AC Milan will be making a good performance.”
