Ipswich welcome Barnsley to Portman Road in this afternoon’s Championship clash, and are favourites to pick up all three points in their opening game of the season.

The Tractor Boys are desperate to put last season’s disappointment behind them in the playoffs race so they’ll be keen to start the new campaign fast.

Last season, Ipswich Town finished just on place outside of the playoff places (7th) with 69 points from their 46 games, but weren’t the most convincing at home at times. The Tractor Boys won only nine of their 23 games in their own backyard last season, but will benefit from a fresh start and winnable opposition.

Barnsley are back in the Championship after winning the League One playoffs last season, but lost more than a third of their away games so they could be wary of Ipswich’s threat when the two sides lock horns this afternoon. Fulham are currently top after winning game Newcastle in their opener, but a win by two clear goals would see this afternoon’s victor overtake them.
