(GSM) – Iran are interested in hiring Sven-Goran Eriksson as their new manager after the World Cup. The Iranian FA claims it has held positive talks with the Swede tactician in order that he takes over the helm.

The former England and Mexico manager will be at the World Cup finals as he has been installed as manager of Ivory Coast. However, his role in Africa will not be a long-term one and he will be back to search for a job when the tournament ends in July, a fact that the Iranian FA is aware of.

“We’ve had a positive talk,” Mehdi Taj, vice-president of the Iranian FA, is reported as saying on Persianfootball.com.

“We have negotiated with Sven Goran Eriksson about leading Iran in the Asian Championship.”

Current Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi’s contract covers the period of the Asian Championship. However, there is a clause in his deal which allows the FA to release him prior to the competition’s kick-off.

Former Turkey boss Fatih Terim is also believed to be on the Iranian FA’s shortlist.
